Oh well, I'm just happy that somebody's making a marionette action film.

If anyone knows Trey & Matt, I am more that happy to donate the Centycore/Gryphon fight to the death(and sequel).

Reading Dr.Cat's "Housecalls" got me thinking about community. Her professor's saying "Ah, a small town, people will never let you alone, but they will never let you down." really struck home.

In the past 3 years, I've lived in a megalopolis of over 11 million, a good-sized city of over 1 million, and a small city of just under 20,000 people. No matter where I've lived, the amount of "community" I've enjoyed depended almost entirely on me.

Did I introduce myself to the neighbors? Did I share with my neighbors? Did I look out for my neighbors?

Now, I'm either an outgoing introvert, or a shy extrovert. I always feel I fall short in cultivating community, but I'm working on it.

I'm realizing that's what life is...always striving to do better, or at least doing the best you can each day. I use to think, one day, I'd just be where I wanted to be. Now it looks like "the journey's the thing".

So, Thursday night, The Nut House is having "Brother's Keeper" night. Sisters, cousins, the whole family is welcome. Tom & his brother John Collins are the specials and The Hollies are 1st up on the Jukebox.

Designated drivers, soft & virgin drinks on the house.

I'm in a bit of a rush, but I wanted to give you a heads up on the DNC official drink at The Nut House.

A brief explanation for those of you from other countries, or those who slept through "American" History class. Back in our formative years, the Mother Country and the Colonies were involved in the "Triangle Trade" of(clockwise)slaves to the New World, sugar to New England, rum to England(it's a sloppy triangle).

So, what's an appropriate rum drink? If it were, say a chilly January 20, we'd have a Flaming Rum Punch celebration. But as it's late July and we are HOT even on the coast, we'll settle for a Fruity Rum Punch. Don't get me wrong, I like any Rum Punch, but as the DNC is in Massachusetts... (was that snippy?)

Found out Mr.Man didn't register the Chupacabra script, so I'm off to the WGA with my check.

We're in the middle of Afternoon Tea, so this will be a short one.

The Boston High Tea Party is going swimmingly. We have a little raffle going on, $5 a try. I have miniature tea crates floating off the pier in nice tidal pool, each tied off with string. There are 100 total, 10 have a "complementary drink" ticket, 5 have a "comp. entree" ticket, and 1 has a "Party in The Back Room" certificate. I'll be making no profit on this folly, but what fun.

I can't get the treatment to the WGA until tomorrow(duh!), so the cliffhanger continues.

Looks like things at The Nut House have a bit too much political undertone-all on me of course. So, after the DNC, maybe I can switch gears 'til September.

I've got to remember, "All things in moderation", the motto of The Nut House.

Bread and Circuses

Up WAY too early for a Saturday. I'm not sleeping well, but we'll chat about that some other time.

Mr.Man woke me up leaving for Comic-Con, a comic book etc. convention in San Diego. Now I'm not a great fan of comic books, I read Spidey in the daily strip growing up. MAD MAG. was my only regular purchase, following in my dad's footsteps.

Anyway, I was replying to Nessa(Life or...)about the circus, and I had a flash. I'm gonna write a script! I have a script(Mr.Man & I) in a drawer, a Chupacabra script from '97. Mr.Man's buds backed off the pre-production, they weren't hungry enough. I won't go into details, 'cause I can't remember if Mr.Man registered it with the WGA.

OK, here's the treatment for the new script, working title:
America, We're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat(ANB).

A well meaning genetic scientist(Dr. Kat), fed up with the current political(wish I could spell mishigoss) mess from both parties, makes it his(or her) quest to create a new political Party symbol, and thus inspire the creation of a new political Party.

Dr. Kat chooses the Gryphon, a mythical beast and the symbol of Venice. The Doctor's investment prospectus gives the following description:
Gryphon - This noblest of fantastic creatures is a combination of the two noblest creatures of their elements, the lion, of land, and the eagle, of air. It is an emblem of knowledge and valor, and is a guardian of kings. This majestic beast is still well known in the world for its protection and majesty.

Dr. Kat gets the funding, and the development of The Gryphon is very successful. But during the final stages, there is a 6.7 earthquake at the island laboratory off the coast of PR(you know, the ones the U.S. owns)and alters the course of the experiment.

Instead of the noble Gryphon, Dr. Kat unleashes...
The Centycore - a creature with a horse's hooves, lion's legs, elephantine ears, a bear's muzzle, a monstrous mouth, and a ten point antler protruding from its forehead. It has the voice of a man, and has no mercy(descriptions provided by Mystic Blades).

The earthquake, with numerous aftershocks, disrupts security at the lab, allowing the Centycore to escape, and in the confusion, board a U.S. Naval Vessel. After reproducing rapidly(can easily mate with donkeys, elephants, moose, former greenes), the Centycore and offspring head toward D.C.

Now, if this were a comic book, this is where the cliff hanger would come in. For my screenplay, I've got to get this into the WGA before I share anymore with my friends at The Nut House. It's not that I don't trust you guys...

What the hell is gonna stop this Monster?
Red, white & blue Superman? Mass prayer? Alien Robot?

Alright, I better wrap up Charade...Pt.3 before I move on.

Well, Mr.Man said Norma had a lot of chintz. He should have said chintzy stuff. That said, Norma is in her 90s, so whatever she likes, more power to her. Think "Sunset Blvd.", but 1960s & 70s reproductions. Norma's 2nd husband died over 10 years ago, after that, she moved back up to L.A.(well, The Valley).

I'm certain she's on a tight budget, she gets no residuals and she finished only one picture, her last until 1996, after SAG was established. Guess that's why she's renting out her home for shoots.

FYI- the topless "actresses" (yes there were a couple of them) were fully dressed when I arrived. And it turns out Mr.Man was lighting the set and shooting BTS, not shooting the "feature presentation", so he'll get paid, but no credit -Thank God! I'd better move on now, before I write something that could reveal my secret identity(ha), but along with the "TA's", a former... adult film star was making an extended cameo appearance. He was fully clothed - Thank you very much.

On to the Next Stop...

Is everyone(tripod bloggers included) on their way to Boston? It's that or, if I buy into The Prophet Rancelot, the rapture's come and I've been...left behind.

Anyway, as I've said on another blog(Vance's), I'm a registered Democrat, but in the General election, I vote for the person, not the party(are there too many commas in that last bit?). But I have no real interest in either convention. With today's technology, conventions aren't really necessary. There's no need to pull party members from California, to the New Your Islands, when we have picture cell phones, satellite up links, live streaming Internet bla bla bla. But... you know how we love tradition, especially Party traditions.

How can we at The Nut House participate in the Democrat convention starting this weekend, and the Republican convention in NYC in September? It shouldn't matter what your affiliation is, a party's a party.

Sunday afternoon, we will have a Boston High Tea Party. Any ideas for the other 3 days would be greatly appreciated. I'll ask about the RNC conventions in about a month. You know, when I was little, I thought GOP stood for Government Of the People- ha!!

Charade...Pt 2

OK, where was I... oh, there's a slight change of plans. I'm going to try to stop by the set today, it's the last day of shooting. I really want to see Norma's place. I guess I'll just have to be a well adjusted adult and politely ignore the "boobs". Of course topless "actress" would be on set the day I visit.

So, I guess it's time for the medicine, more sugar tonight.

Norma and her companion's arraignment got me thinking about celebs and their employees, specifically, the Personal Assistant. These PAs run errands, take & pick up children from school, fix meals/snacks for said children, schedule deliveries, maintenance calls, health care appointments, and other personal services for the Celeb.

I'm sure many of these celebs pay well. But the pay I've seen listed in some ads for PAs is ridiculously low. I know everyone is on some kind of budget, but shouldn't one pay a fair wage if one can afford to do so?

I was watching a true reality show the other day, a PBS/OPB(Oregon Public Broadcasting) co-production called "Back To The Floor". No prize money, no winners or losers. The company owner/CEO/Big Boss has to work the low level jobs at his or her company. The episode I watched had the owner of the Carnival Cruise Line working as a drink server, a waiter, and a steward on the least expensive cruise Carnival offers.

These low level positions pay peanuts - $45/mo. YES!!! $45 a month salary. That's less than $1.50 a day! Now, they get room & board while working aboard, but they still have to pay for a "land pad", like a flight attendant. These workers rely on tips to...fill in(ha) the balance. Remember, this is the cheap cruise, catering mostly to vacationers on a tight budget.

Many of the stewards and stewardesses pay a deck hand to help them clean all the rooms to the level expected by Carnival. One stewardess pays a deck hand $800/mo. to assist her. Remember, the stewardess has a $45/mo salary. She may make up to $150/day in tips, she may make much less.

What does that say about the people who've "made it"?

Why is it we(generalizing) don't want to pay a fair wage to the people who do the work that we don't want to do? Again, I'm not saying that everyone is guilty of this, but a lot of us are.

Announcement - bartenders and wait staff are getting a .25/hr raise, chef gets .50/hr raise. Re-evaluation in 10 weeks. The Nut House is NOTHING without good help.

Let's see... who else needs a raise?

Charade...Pt.1

This week, Mr.Man is shooting a...low budget feature at the residence of a former star of silent and Early talking pictures. He was describing her home, overly decorated, lots of chintz(Mr.Man's mom was an antiquer, which is why he knows the word "chintz"),iron scrolls...I kept waiting for the words,"Sunset Boulevard", and waited... and finally I had to say,"like in Sunset Boulevard?" Mr.Man said "yes", but all that stuff in a much smaller house.

Just for consistency, let's call the former star/homeowner Norma. Norma also has a male companion. He's nothing like Max, nor is he anything like Joe(Holden). Norma never has to worry about unwanted sexual advances from her companion and I'm certain they're both happy with that arraignment.

Mr.Man just got home from the shoot, so I'll continue Charade later today, sorry for the interruption.

What the hell is wrong with us? I mean the "civilized" world? Why is bigger, better? What's with all the conspicuous consumption?

When I was at Art School, there was a "joke", a misplaced philosophy regarding artwork.

Bloody Punch
Oh my... the one two of Bloody Maries and Champagne Punch is proving to be too much for this little nut. Ah, to be in my early twenties, when a can of Coke(not New Coke mind you)and a greasy breakfast was all I needed to get started on a Sunday morning.

Another of my Sunday rituals is listening to Le Show, Harry Shearer's hour long music, political satire, comedy...what else?...just funny and sometimes poignant radio program. In my flyover home state, it runs live at 1pm(after breakfast). In L.A., it's on at 10am - just about wakeup time.

Anyway, I mention Le Show as an example for Rance. This will be the final mention of Rance, unless some drastic event or information surfaces. See, Harry does not get paid for Le Show. It's his "hobby", his release, it keeps him sharp...I imagine. Check it out Sundays, it's informative, and a lot more entertaining than the Sunday morning talking heads.

Now it's time for the Francophile chapeau to go into the hat box for another year. Thank God the Anglophile hat is tall enough for an ice bag to fit underneath.
