The Nut House
Sunday, 8 August 2004
OOPS
Mood:  accident prone
How embarrassing.

Here's the short version, computer crashed, cookies deleted, forgot the password to The Nut House(cookies signed me in automatically). Where's the grinning sheepishly emoticon?

Anyway, it's back to business. August is a really busy month, and seeing as I've missed a week, The Nut House will be consolidating the following International Drinking Holidays:

Independence/National Days
8/1 Benin
8/3 Niger
8/4 Burkina Faso
8/7 Cote d'Ivory
8/13 Central African Republic
8/15 Congo(Brazzaville)
8/17 Gabon
(JCanuck, please correct me on any out of date African Holidays. One group's independence could be another's subjugation.)

8/15 Korea(Republic of South)
8/17 Indonesia
8/19 Afghanistan(guess this is an old one, wonder if the banks will be open?)

We will be celebrating Thailand's "Queen Sirikit's Birthday" August 12th, which is also the official Mother's Day of Thailand.

Now that Col. Mustard is back, perhaps he can contribute a drink idea. Remember, we are promoting world unity, so no dirty joke drinks or dirty drink jokes please.

Gotta few for August, that in light of my recent expedition, I would sure rather celebrate in the respective country....

Republic of Moldova - Independence Day - 27 August
Macedonia - St. Elijah's Uprising Day - 24 August
Georgia - Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Day - 28 August

But in any event...bottoms up!!!

Cheers...

Col.

Thanks so much for your rapid response. I should have mentioned that I will have a 2nd consolidation for IDH toward the end of August. St. Elijah's sounds like a possibility, there are dozens of Assumption Days.

Any favorite Thai libations fit for a Queen?

Hej!

Bring on the drinks - I don't care WHAT they are! I'm ready to PARTY!!! I am a celebratin' fool! I managed to coordinate a week's vacation from my three jobs, and I only got fired from one in retaliation for my efforts (he was pissed because I ONLY gave him a week's notice for my vacation [by the way, he knows I've been in the moving process for two months now], and because I said no to his demand to come in and work his little, tiny, part-time job for 1.5 hours per day - 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. - during my vacation week!). Luckily, it was the job that I absolutely ABHOR with a passion, and I've been trying to find a way to quit calmly and quietly, without causing World War III. (OK, I didn't quite accomplish that part!)

Don't feel bad for me, though - I AM ECSTATIC!!! AND one of my other bosses promptly and very gratefully picked up those hours I would have missed - and for more pay!

Yes, Rancelot - there IS a God!

LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL!!!!!!!

I think a fruity drink with Vodka says welcome to any Nation....Vodka seems universal and...well...fruit is just friendly. Glad your back. Computer crashing is a bitch.

You're right, there's lots of assumption days. I was sure there was a holiday in August in France, and there was! Only it's an assumption day:

15 August Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

I was going to work on an independent film in France, but they were not able to pay my way there, though. I thought I still might be able to pay for it with my earnings from the film, but it looked pretty iffy once my agent would have gotten his cut.

(This is back in my short-lived career as an actress. I wasn't well-known in this area, so that is why I didn't receive any good offers.)

Maybe I should set my next screenplay in France and they'll pay to have me on location. Ha, ha. Well, I have no good French ideas right now, so I'll have to bid adieu to my dreams of working in France.

Talk to you guys soon. Thanks for posting on my blog nut house :)

Hack! Hack! HACK! I think I just coughed up a hairball.

Anyway, whereas the Colonel disappeared "sans noticia" I thought I should mention that I have gone down into DEEP COVER. In otherwords I am temporarily gone "ModeR8".

Reason being when I rescued my latest damsel in distress (or was it dat dress?) from the jaws of death; anyway, all the legions of 'our adversary' were not amuzed to say the least. Normal law abiding patriots turned into self-righteous demons. Passive Christian homemakers devolved into cynic sarcasm and a pantheon of neo-religious monsters. Even the prophets of doom and gloom were unleashed on my doorstep. This is normal happenstance when exposing and exorcising demons. So I took the cat to the vet and she appears to be doing well irregardless. Things should return to normal by the end of the month.

Just pour me a double, and smile. That helps a lot.

SKR,

Deep Cover sounds like fun. Me, I'm just really busy & Mr.Man's computer problems are keeping me from mosting. I'm certain this is affecting profits at The Nut House. See you tonight, uncovered hopefully.

I would say beer. I have yet to live in a country that doesn't have at least one brewery, even the Muslim country that I lived in.

Independence in Africa. Well, yeah they all have days that they celebrate. You kind of have to wonder why though, although the colonial powers handed over the reins of government on these days, economically, most of them are still colonialized by someone or another.

I could go on a huge rant about this over on my blog, but since I will have to go through my government-owned and operated ISP when I get back, I don't want to find myself kicked out of the country...

Hej, Rancelot:

I don't really party hearty - at least not with alcohol. I was married to an alcoholic, and it was not a pretty sight. My heavy, "sinful" partying consists of an iced caramel swirl latte made with real cream - not very healthy, so not done very often. As for the Absolut, the last bottle I bought was in Sweden four years ago - I bought it because the label was all in Swedish and I thought it would make a cool conversation piece. But, we don't want to tell these things at The Nut House! I don't want to put a damper on anyone else's good time.

And I am sweatin' now! It's hot here, humid, and I'm trying to pack boxes. I'm just about in a panic, because the realtor is supposed to come. You're right - all this sweatin' is not pretty!

Later!
I.

You know, looking at that list, it's obvious that all of France going on holidays in August is not a new thing...

JC,

Imagine if the French had granted Vietnam independence in the late 50's.

Ah, the legacy of colonialism. Thank you GB for the Middle East crap. Oh, oh, oh, I may have Friday's movie. Thanks JC.
