The Return of MOVIE NIGHT
Starting tomorrow, Friday nights will be movie nights at The Nut House. There was too much going on last week to get up and running for Halloween, so "Chiller Theater" Friday night double features will be a regular event.

This week, my double feature picks are:

The Handmaid's Tale
They Live

Suggestions for following movie nights are welcome, but no mindless slasher films, please. Meaningful slasher films are welcome.

Got to go eat. My appetite's's coming back.

Ooooh, I LOVE Hadnmaid's Tale! I read the book at least once a month, and I have an old pre-viewed Blockbuster tape of the movie.
And They Live? Monster Space Alien Yuppies that have their asses handed to them by the one and only Rowdy Roddy Piper? PURE social commentary and sci-fi greatness!
As for meaningful slasher films, were you thinking more social commentary or witty mockery, i.e. Those ridiculous Scream Movies? Either way, I'll bring some tabasco popcorn and I am IN!
Q

What's scarier than Bush in office?
Uh....NOTHING.

Q,

You need to ask for a bookstore gift cert. for the holidays. Once a month? Wow. I haven't read it since... '89? '90? I think I'll pull it out again, just to keep my level of activist making piss(or is it vinegar)at an all time high.

As for the slasher films, I hoped I'd just missed the meaningful one or two out there(and I was being facetious).

Looking forward to the Tobasco Popcorn.

Nessa,

Have we totally missed Homecoming weekend? I'm not big on "college comedies", but let's find an approprate Friday night for a one time marathon.

Chinq,

May I suggest: The Lord of the Flies, and Rosemary's Baby?

I don't care what horror flick is playing because my eyes will probably be glued shut.

To that end I want to plug a local bartender and bar manager extraordinaire, Kristin Markley Woodward of OYSTERS in Corona Del Mar. She is probably one of the most creative bartenders around. Ever seen a cable car? Not the San Francisco kind, but the kind you swallow?

Remy Cointreau, a French company that makes Cointreau liqueur and Mount Gay rum sponsors an annual contest to find the perfect drink. Kristin refused to enter for the past two years even though she was encouraged by two of her local distributors. This year they urged her again, and her recipe for 'cable car' was picked as one of the three best drinks. All three winning bartenders are featured in this month's Vogue magazine. The judges told her in front of the other two winners that her's was their favorite drink.

HOW TO MAKE A CORONA DEL MAR CABLE CAR
1-1/2 oz. Cointreau
1 oz. Mount Gay old rum
2 oz. sour mix (equal parts lemon and lime juices and sugar)
Shake over ice and serve up in a martini glass rimmed with cane sugar and cinnamon.

Cheers!
